![]() I can’t set it up in renoise to record the audio in camtasia. I’d like to play around with some capturing as well, but encounter problems doing so in camtasia, due to my Echo Indigo I/O soundcard. I did not find any software that you just install, and it is responsible to install MP3, XviD and/or DivX encoders for you, and lets you do the screen capturing in one click, as it should be.Ĭopied from other thread: long camtasia / soundcard rant Of course, someone may come to this thread after me and post something like “or just use XYZ software instead” - well I hope they do. I use it to just convert the XVID AVI into an XVID AVI with MP3 audio (instead of the PCM non compressed generated by HyperCam) Working with VirtualDub may look complicated at first, especially for those who dont care much about all the different formats and encoders, but there is not much to it. This step will allow you to use MP3 audio encoding, to further compress the audio. Download VirtualDub - this is how we will convert some audio / video formats.Install LameACM - this is the MP3 encoder (Google “lame acm”, download and extract then right click the Inf file -> Install).Install XviD - this is the XviD Encoder for compressing the video further.Īfter installation, you will be able to select this as the encoder for HyperCam, which gives more compressed video. This is probably good enough for many users and will probably work on any PC that has some default codecs, but of course, I only tested this on mine. With no further installations, you can create some compressed video with non-compressed audio. It is small and fast, and worked for me right “out of the box”. Install HyperCam - this is the best capture utility as far as I care.I specifically wanted a solution that requires as few actions as possible in order to reach the final product, which is a compressed AVI of screen activity + audio. attempts.Ok, my conclusions for “how to capture screen to video” are as follows, for anyone else wondering: Maybe the better bet is to use the combo of Urlsnooper to locate the original video file, and then Net Transport to grab it, if the site will let you ?Įdit: Oh yeah, to be complete here, I did install the Camstudio lossless codec, in between the 1st. I would hesitate to spend money on Snagit or AV Screencast, lacking some assurance that they can really do the job. The one good thing here is that Camstudio is FREE. ![]() What next ? On the first try, I had to kill the flashing video window with Taskmanager, as it was very reluctant to close, and was screwing up the open browser and the desktop. AVI now has video, but it's of terrible quality, and still no sound. For the second try, I followed Baldrick's advice quoted above, and went with a site choice of QuickTime format instead. I had selected sound recording from speaker, in the program's preferences. I got the black screen with no video and no sound. ![]() The first attempt was with the site choice of broadband + WM format. (The target was an interview clip on HBO Online.) There don't seem to be any guides for it here - if one is even called for - and the Help stuff for the program points to dead links. I installed Camstudio 2, but have gone 0 for 2 attempts trying to use it. Or capture with HyperSnap-DX This is an old thread, but it seemed the one most to the point, and I'm making an effort to research things in the Forums before posting a query that has been dealt with a number of times previously. Turn off overlay/hardware video acceleration in wmp under options->performance->video acceleration and drag it to none.
